book meme from tumblr

I'm bored, so I'm gonna fill out this huge book meme I just found on Tumblr :)

1. Favorite childhood book?

What did I read as a child? Hmm... I remember this book called 'Lippels Traum' that I used to love, and Erich Kästner books, such as 'Das doppelte Lottchen', 'Pünktchen und Anton' and 'Emil und die Detektive'. And then, of course, Enid Blyton. I've read the whole 'Famous Five' series, the whole 'St. Clare's' series and all the 'Five Find-Outers' books. And wow, now I feel like rereading them. LOL

2. What are you reading right now?

I'm rereading Sarah Rees Brennan's 'The Demon's Lexicon' while I'm waiting for the next Infernal Devices book to come out.

3. What books do you have on request at the library?

I don't go to the library.

4. Bad book habit?

Um...?

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?

I don't use the library. -_-

6. Do you have an e-reader?

Yes, I have a Kindle whose location is currently unknown. >.>

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

One book at a time. When I read more than one, I tend to either lose interest in everything I'm reading, or I end up reading one faster than the others anyway, so... there's not really a point in reading more than one.

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?

Since discovering fandom - yes. It's given me a lot of new books to read, but at the same time, I'm so much on the internet that I don't have the time to actually read anymore.

9. Least favourite book you read this year (so far)?

Um... I've loved them all, so none.

10. Favorite book you've read this year?

I like them all equally, tbh.

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?

I don't really have a comfort zone, when it comes to books or fanfiction. No - WAIT. French is definitely out of my comfort zone, and I haven't opened a French book since finishing high school, so...

12. What is your reading comfort zone?

I prefer English books over German and French books; always have. But if I want to read something originally written in German or French, I do make the effort to read it in the original language, as long as I know it.

13. Can you read on the bus?

Yes, thank god! Otherwise I would never get any reading done.

14. Favorite place to read?

The bus, and the little café I go to during my lunch break.

15. What is your policy on book lending?

I don't mind giving books to friends when I know I'm gonna get them back eventually. I'm pretty sure Jil still has a pile of books that are mine, so... hopefully I'll get those back.

16. Do you ever dog-ear books?

Yep. I don't mind if my books look "read". I have a friend who freaks out whenever someone does something like that to her books lol

17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?

Sometimes, but not really. I used to do it during my school years, but usually I'm too lazy. In my Harry Potter books, I did write a 'lol' or something next to all the slash references, though ;)

18. Not even with text books?

*snorts* My text books have everything from highlighted passages to actual school notes, to random little messages and naughty doodles.

19. What is your favourite language to read in?

English! Always.

20. What makes you love a book?

A good story, good writing and good characters? LOL

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?

Idk. If I think someone will like a book, I rec it.

22. Favorite genre?

YA! Young Adult and/or fantasy. I used to think at my age I would no longer be interested in those kind of books, but honestly, I can't see a time when I won't want to read them.

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did)?

Classics. I have sooo many more that I want to read, but there's always something else I want to read first. See my problem? It's hard to find the motivation for classics, sometimes.

24. Favourite biography?

I've never read a biography.

25. Have you ever read a self-help book?

LOL. I used to have some books like that when I was like, thirteen. Stuff like, "All About Boys". Embarrassing.

26. Favourite cookbook?

I usually look up recipes on the internet, but my mum has this famous Luxembourgish cookbook called Ketty Thull, so that's what I check when there are things I don't know how to make.

27. Most inspirational book you've read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?

I've only really read the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books... and they are quite inspirational in the way that they've made me want to come up with a great plot to write my own book series lol.

28. Favorite reading snack?

Anything.

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.

Twilight.

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?

I don't really read reviews. When I like the sound of a book, I read it.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?

If I don't like a book, I say so.

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?

I can read in three (English, French and German). If I could pick a fourth one, it would probably be Russian.

33. Most intimidating book you've ever read?

Need to think about this. *scrolls on* Goethe's 'Faust', I suppose. Everyone dreaded that book but I actually loved reading it. I still quote it sometimes.

34. Most intimidating book you're too nervous to begin?

All those huge Russian ones, like War and Peace or Anna Karenina. Though maybe intimidating isn't the right word. More like... I lack the motivation to read them.

35. Favorite Poet?

I don't read poetry.

36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?

I don't go to the libraryyyyy.

37. How often have you returned books to the library unread?

Lalala.

38. Favorite fictional character?

DON'T DO THIS TO ME. Okay. Um. Harry Potter. Luna Lovegood. Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, Elizabeth Bennet, Colonel Brandon, Magnus Bane, Jem Carstairs, Nick Ryves, Alec Lightwood, Aziraphale, Crowley, Simon Lewis, ... I could go on forever.

39. Favourite fictional villain?

Rodolphus Lestrange (shut up, I know he's not in the books much but I like the idea of him), Rabastan Lestrange (same), Mephisto, Sebastian Morgenstern :3

40. Books I'm most likely to bring on vacation?

Whatever I'm reading at the time.

41. The longest I've gone without reading.

A couple of years? *hides*

42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.

Oh, there are a few. Mostly books we read at school that I just didn't want to read. French ones mostly. Le Rouge et le Noir, Madame Bovary, ...

43. What distracts you easily when you're reading?

People talking.

44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?

Oooh! Um. The 1995 BBC series of Pride and Prejudice, Lord of the Rings, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, ... many other Jane Austen adaptations.

45. Most disappointing film adaptation?

The 2005 Keira Knightley movie of Pride and Prejudice. Don't talk about it or I'll start ranting.

46. The most money I've ever spent in the bookstore at one time?

Several hours.

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?

If I've already bought it, I don't skim it. Whut?

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?

If it takes me ages to read a page and I just can't get into it, I'll stop.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized?

Semi-organised.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you've read them?

Keep them!

51. Are there any books you've been avoiding?

50 Shads of Gray. Hahaha.

52. Name a book that made you angry.

Books often make me angry; doesn't mean I don't love them at the same time, though.

53. A book you didn't expect to like but did?

Goethe's 'Faust'. 'Rabbit Redux'. Idk, there are several that I was forced to read (school) and ended up liking a whole lot more than I thought I would.

54. A book that you expected to like but didn't?

There aren't many books I don't like, tbh. I can't think of one right now.

55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?

I don't feel guilty about anything, so... everything! :)

LOL Okay, my answers were lame, sorry.

I love this meme!

Mmmm and Mortal Instruments, I totally agree with you about it making you want to create your own series. I fell in love with those books!

I'm excited for the movie, too! I like the cast :)

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesss! I'm so excited about the movie! I would've preferred another Jace, but I think Jamie should be all right... and I lovelovelovelovelove Magnus and Alec and I can't WAIT. :D

And Clockwork Princess comes out in a few days too, wee!

Also, did you know that they're releasing something called the Magnus Chronicles? They're publishing a chapter a month starting in April, and it's basically gonna be short stories about different things in Magnus' life that were hinted at in the books but never explicitly explained, like why he was banned from Peru, his and Alec's first date, etc. :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I think he'll be perfect! He's not quite how I imagined him but I still find him so attractive haha. YES MAGNUS AND ALEC IS GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE OMG omg.

I've actually only read the first book from the Infernal Devices series, then I got sucked into like, three more series. I've got it ready to read on my kindle though.

!!!! 594671750

I DID NOT KNOW THIS. Awwww I am sosos excited for this now!

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, at first I was like, "BUT I WANT ALEX PETTYFER *WHINES*", but the more I look at him, the more I can see Jace in him, so... I think he'll be good.

And GOOD, don't read Clockwork Prince until you have Clockwork Princess right there because the ending was so frustrating, and makes you want to read on right away!

Me too! :D I didn't find out about it until like, the other week, but now I can't wait! They're releasing the e-book versions of the chapters one by one, and then in... March next year, I think, they're publishing it again as an actual book :D And they're gonna be written by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, and someone else, so... yeah, that should be interesting :)))

What other series? I need new reading material for when I'm done rereading all my current favourites :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha yeah I know Alex Pettyfer was the favourite. But somehow he's too clean cut I think. Well, apart from in Magic Mike /gets fan out

Ohh really? I'll download Clockwork Princess when its out asap then!

OH MY GOD so much fangirling right now!! I adore Magnus and Alec suuuuuch a lot. AND OH MY GOD THE ENDING OF THE LAST BOOK I STILL AM NOT OVER THAT.

Well I absolutely LOVED the Legend series by Marie Lu, the second one came out only recently so there's gonna be a long wait until I can get my hands on the last one. If you like young adult dystopian future books then this series is for you. I also loved the Divergent series by Veronia Roth and currently I'm reading the Matched series by Ally Condie. I enjoyed the first book in that series but now I'm on the second and that is so much better imo.

I'm totally stealing this meme now haha.

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, maybe. A mix between Alex and Jamie would be ideal, haha :D

And yesss, Alec and Magnus killed me! I hadn't read that one until recently and... ugh, such a long wait for the last one.

Oh, and another possibly brand new information - there's gonna be a third series of Shadowhunter books, coming out in like, 2015, so still far far away, but... yeah. Apparently they're set five years after TMI and about the LA Institute :D

Okay, great, thanks! I'll check those out when I'm done rereading everything else :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm that would be good.

I KNOW!! I googled the release date for it when I finished reading it and was SO GUTTED to see 2014 staring back at me. Not cool, CC, not cool.

OHHHHHHHHHH this is even more exciting!! I literally cannot get enough of TMI, I fangirl so hard for them. Plus, I pretty much am in love with Jace... literary crush n wot

I hope you enjoy them! Lemme know if you read them :D

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! I mean, it didn't have an actual cliffhanger, but... it still sucks to have to wait this long. :((( Ah well. In the meantime, we can focus on the Magnus stories ;)

Ugh, yes, I love everything TMI. I looked for fics the other day, Magnus/Alec, mostly, but there are only a few pages on AO3, and they're all relatively short :( I want long fics, dammit.

I will! :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I know, I don't like waiting. It's like waiting for HP all over again. Mmmm we definitely can. I'm so glad you told me about these!

Yeaaah I found the same :((( I want like, their whole relationship in fanfiction format haha

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-11-12 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I just came back to this post because I remembered you rec'ing a few dystopian books and now I'm sad because I've read the Matched series in the meantime and I literally JUST finished Allegiant (and cried forever, omg, have you read it yet???).

So I guess I'll be giving Legend a try next, since the third book seems to be out now! :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw no I haven't read the final Matched book yet! I have it on my kindle but haven't got round to reading it yet. omg now I want to read it!! SCREW WORK.

YES!! Give Legend a try, definitely one of my absolute faves <3<3<3 Let me know what you think of it!

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Matched was okay but nothing compared to Divergent (Allegiant is the last book of that!) and you have to read it cause... AAAAH. Ahem.

But I love Legend! I'm on the second one now - reading slowly, but I do love it :D

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my bad I meant Divergent. Yeah I thought Matched was okay. But I've not read the final Divergent book either, although I loved the first two! Haha okay I will read it :D

Ooo hope you enjoy the rest of it!

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
also there's a movie coming out soon! Of Divergent :)

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesss! I hope it's good :3 Not that sure about the main cast, so far, but I guess as long as they do a good job, I can accept them as Tris and Four.

Did you see City of Bones? :/

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like who they've cast! But yeah, I shall remain sceptical until I see it...

YES IT WAS HORRENDOUS. I thought Jace was just SO WRONG. What did you think of it?

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not a big fan of Shailene Woodley (I don't even know what it is - I've never seen her in anything but it's just... one of those things, you know? Haha) but I guess she looks okay in the trailer, and Theo what's-his-name is niiiiiiiiiice but not exactly how I pictured Four at all... but they can definitely change my mind if they play their characters well. :D

YES. Everything was wrong - except Simon and Magnus. At first I was like, "okay, I can do this... okay, I guess I can see why they changed that... okay okay" - but at the latest when they didn't do the Simon-turned-into-a-rat thing, I was so done with that movie. And the whole ending??? What even was that? Ughhhh. I don't even want to see the rest of the movies, but I know I'll watch them for Alec and Magnus, haha. And Simon. <3

If they even DO the other movies :p

[identity profile] em-rose483.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah yeah we shall see. I really love who they've cast for Four!!

Omg yeah simon and Magnus were perfect but that was about it. I HATED what they did with the ending sfm. Like, what even was that. I want the final book so much tho! Don't care about the films. Apparently they haven't been commissioned to make any more so I guess that's the end of that lol

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-12-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!!! I can't wait for that to come out, eep :))) And yeah, I hope so, haha!

[identity profile] sophi3g.livejournal.com 2013-03-10 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT EMIL AND THE DETECTIVES. I loved that book. Did you read Mallory Towers as well?

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-18 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha! :D I love those children's books... but it would probably be a little weird if I took one of those into the bus in the morning to read. *g*

Um... I don't think so? Idk, I looked them all up on Wiki and it was a bit confusing because I read them all in German and they all have different titles - AND characters - in German, so... I'm not sure, haha :)

[identity profile] sophi3g.livejournal.com 2013-03-22 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like I never read proper grown-up-people books. Children's books are so more fun. When I'm on the bus I read everything on my phone - problem solved!
Ugh that sounds extremely confusing. Gallery Towers was quite similar to St Clare's in that it was also set in a boarding school and...I'm not really sure what the difference was but I know that I wanted to be Darell Rivers (main character).

[identity profile] thilia.livejournal.com 2013-03-24 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, nope, I don't think I've read those. I've only read the ones with the twins. :D

[identity profile] sophi3g.livejournal.com 2013-03-26 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
aw, well. you missed out. those books were my childhood.
